First Year Engineering

The Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities is started at the beginning of the Institute in year 2009. This Department is the foundation of engineering and strengthen the very first learning of the engineering professionals. The department of Basic Sciences & Humanities binds subjects of universal application such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Environmental Sciences.

The Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities provide fundamental knowledge, conceptual knowledge and value-based education to the budding engineers. This department offers the bridge courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English which help the engineering students to get familiarized to the specialized engineering field. Also the department coordinates a smoother transition of our beginner engineering aspirants from the academic setting they experienced at 10+2 level to the study ambience they will encounter in their undergraduate Engineering courses.

In addition of academics, the Department is also engaged in the development of students’ personality, communication and soft skills through various activities which prepare the students, to step into the modern and globally competitive environment. The students are encouraged to participate in Science exhibitions, projects and various technical activities which helps them to enhance the technical knowledge.

The department has modern laboratories and advanced library facilities. The department comprises well qualified faculty members, organized into four units along broad disciplinary lines - Chemistry, English, Mathematics and Physics.

The department of Basic Science & Humanities is dedicated to fostering competence and proficiency in the areas of basic sciences, technology, and personality development of the students in order to think critically and logically, communicate clearly, and live ethically. The department's goal is to provide fundamental education by encouraging interdisciplinary and diverse research.

Programme Educational Objectives

PEO-01	To train students to become successful professionals in consulting, academia, industry, and research.
PEO-02	To comprehend the basic sciences and their advancements, technology can be applied to make engineering streams easier to understand.
PEO-03	To provide students a solid foundation in the fundamentals of mathematics, science, computing, and engineering so they can formulate, analyse, and solve problems related to technical education.
PEO-04	To equip undergraduates with the necessary communication and teamwork skills, as well as an understanding of ethical behaviour, to succeed in their careers.

PO-01	Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO-02	Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, reviewer search literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO-03	Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO-04	Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
